WHAT WE DO
lightbulb

1. Deliver energy access

We start by electrifying off-grid homes with clean, modern solar home systems that are vastly superior to the solutions they displace. Our customers pay for the system in small, affordable mobile money payments, and after 18 months, the system is theirs to enjoy forever, for free.

2. Monitor

We gather data on our customers that help them build credit. Payment histories and responses to questionnaires are fed into a machine-learning-based algorithm that allows us to accurately assess a customer’s credit worthiness.

3. Expand

We then use these insights to extend and deepen our financial relationship with qualifying customers, by offering them other life-changing products they wouldn’t otherwise be able to access or afford

WHY INVEST?

1. Huge market

Massive, untapped market in Sub-Saharan Africa of over 600m off-grid consumers with less than 5% penetration by all players combined.

2. Irresistible customer value proposition

Unsurpassed customer experience (product + service) combined with opportunity to build credit and to access to life-changing products keeps customers coming back.

3. Attractive financials

Strong unit economics (GM ~50% and growing), healthy portfolio (~1% default rate among repeat customers), and lean operations mean we are on track for profitability in 2019.

4. Proprietary software and data

Our in-house, machine-learning-driven intelligent portfolio management and CRM capabilities represent a source of long-term competitive advantage and financial value.

5. Proven market traction

6. Enduring social impact

We have enhanced the lives of 40,000 Kenyans by providing light for study, increasing household incomes, and providing an alternative to unsafe fuel sources. This is just the beginning.
